this blog has been on an extended LOA due to ... life. life being busy - life happening, things to do, places to go, people to see... oh yea - and ace face.

last week (well the thursday before we left for oregon) our little ace face got into a fight with 2 BIG dogs... ace lost.
midnight surgery, 30 staples, drainage kit, lovely new sweater and matching "e-collar#, $1000.oo and 10 days later - he is ok.

* special thanks to sweet amanda, who took such great care of him and his sister jinxie while we were away. (notes on oregon to come later this week)

thanks... thanks a lot... really - very thankful!

Can you believe that this year we somehow managed to blow right past our Thanksgiving tradition of going around the table and saying one thing we were thankful for? How did that happen? Especially at a time when there really is so much to be thankful for.
My short list, my top three.
- A wonderful family - starting with a supportive, loving husband and sweet angel-boy. Also thankful for the rest of our family - parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents and the rest of our family tree-lings.
- FRIENDS... you know who you are - pals, I am thankful for YOU. (It DOES take a village!)
- Work... although I have been working a LOT (including ALL thanksgiving weekend) I am thankful to have a job that I love, that challenges me daily and that also comes with a paycheck that affords us to have a home, car, clothes and all the necessities - plus some extras.
What are you thankful for this year?
I will be thankful if anyone gets through my thanksgiving day snapshots.
This year's Thanksgiving Day table - simple, yet it still felt special. We had a toast to "Health and Long Life" given by Grandpa Grandpa and Liam shared some quality time...and Grandpa had some quality time with Liam's Guitar! The rest of the guests arrive, and we have an official welcoming committee of ONE.
Then we ATE!and ATEand ATE... you get the idea.We only invite super adorable guests... see!oh... i was a bit obsessed with this out of control spiced pumpkin cheesecake with sour cream topping and candied walnut garnish that chef todd made.
it's even pretty on the inside... and tasted every bit as good as it looks.

... now if you'll excuse me - i am already behind on my christmas shopping!

under dem grand chapiteau

Busy weekend! Mostly busy Saturday. We started the day by going to Coles 4th bday party at Jungle Land which was a blast! Then off to Kooza which is the travelling cirque du soleil show that is in Santa Monica. We weren't sure how Liam would do since the show was fairly long and included a 30 minute intermission. He did great and seemed to really enjoy it. If you have ever been to a cirque show, you know there is plenty of sensory stimulation - which we thought might overwhelm him... but he hung in there and was a trooper.

We had Liam's 15 month appt today - here are the stats:
Height - 32.5 (90th %)
Weight - 26 lb 14 ox (80th %)

Happy 15 months Lima Bean!

Fifteen? Months!
When I first started taking you to a local Mom's group, you were 8 weeks old, and the teeniest one there. The others ranged from about 9 months old to about 18 months old - most were around fifteen months old. Theses little kids were walking, talking, pushing, hugging, kissing, screaming, melting down, throwning toys, cuddling... and just being fifteen months old. When I showed up that first day, with my little 8 week old Lima Bean, I looked at these 15 month old monsters thinking that they were so grown up and that by the time you were that age your mommy would totally have this parenting thing down to a science and things would just be EASIER then. Oh, I also thought that the idea of you being 15 months old was SOOOOO far away, a distant thought, a whole lifetime to get through. Well... that day 13 months ago seems like last week, and here you are - a 15 month old little monster of your own! A walking, talking, pushing, hugging, kissing, screaming, melting down, throwning toys, cuddling 15 month old!
You are independant and like to do things "by yourself"! This includes eating, trying to use a spoon, turning on and off the television and lights, using mommy's blackberry and of course moving... where ever it is that you want to go - you want to get there on your own! (that is unless you want to be carried... in which case THAT is the only mode of transportation that will do!)
You know what you like - this goes for food, toys and people. By the way, what you like changes on a daily basis. For example - three days ago mac and cheese was your FAVE, you couldn't get enough... two days ago you would have thought it was like sour lemons when it hit your tongue the way you spit it out the second it made contact. We don't understand this, and it makes meal times very interesting. There are two things that you love to eat, and will eat and eat and eat whenever, wherever... and they are fruit and yogurt. Any kind of fruit and any kind of yogurt. The only bummer is that we think you have a tropical fruit allergy (or more likely intolerance)... pineapples and mangos (which you LOVE) bring on a lovely red hive-y rash on your cheeks almost instantly :( The Dr. says you will grow out of it, so we'll keep trying. In fact, we tried pineapple again this morning... you haven't grown out of it yet... sorry little one. Speaking of the Dr. you go for your 15 month appointment on Monday.

You have had some FIRSTS this month - a quick list :)
- First concert / live show - YO GABBA GABBA
- First time being a LION for halloween
- First time on a farm and on a tractor
- First grilled cheese sandwiches :) yum
- First time mommy went away overnight on business and your daddy handled everything (go daddy-o!)

I love you Lima Bean - happy 15 months!
Love,
your mommy - who STILL (after 15 months) does NOT have this parenting thing down to a science and probably never will!

there's a party in my city!

WE DID IT!
we went to the first EVER Yo Gabba Gabba LIVE show!

a little history... Liam is not a BIG TV baby... BUT, there is ONE show that stops him in his tracks from the intro where DJ Lance Rocks footsteps come across the screen. The good news for us, is that it might be one of the hippest, most fun and least offensive kids TV shows that are on high rotation on Nick JR (RIP Noggin)...

SO - when Yo Gabba Gabba announced their LIVE show, i bought 3 tix straight away. We were SOOO proud of the Lima Bean.. for his first LIVE show, he did GREAT. I think his favorite part was when the Aquabats sang "pool party"... MY Favorite part was when Biz Markie showed up for "Biz's beat of the day"! (love me some Biz!)

If there is a party in your city - you should DEFINITELY GO!!!

here is our 2 minute photo montage... you will feel like you were there! enjoy! (the funniest part is at the end - watch Liam's face when all of the streamers and confetti comes down from the ceiling!! its hillarious)

silly trumps proper

Now that Liam is more stable on his two feet and the weather is still nice, we have been spending more time outside - which he LOVES. The first stop always seems to be the dog dishes. I am sure a "proper" mother would never let her child play in the dog water... but we knew i would never fall under the "proper" mother category didn't we?!

i can't help it... i love silly - and have been known to encourage it.
happy friday!
